Should black women embrace their natural hair (Fros / locks) or ... ?

This question is based on this article from SwaliAfrica's Blog.
Afro (or Fro) became popular during the 60s Black is Beautiful campaign where black people no longer wanted to blend in with western ideas of beauty and stood out, wearing ‘fros. It became both fashion style and a political statement.
Today what do you advocate ?  Should black women embrace their 'Fros' / locks or continue spending heavily to get hairstyles similar to Caucasians & Asians.

Im writing from the US. Look the idea of fashion & style has changed. Afro is difficult to maintain. Fixing hair extensions and getting straight hair doesnt make any black person less black. Period
